Club History

Westport Rugby Football Club was established in 1925.

The original location of its single pitch was in the Demesne, Westport, located at the 'Bog Field Gate,' on the Golf Course Road.

In 1984, the Club purchased land in Carrowholly, three miles from Westport town, and developed two new pitches and a training area. This was followed by the opening, and much celebration, of its purpose-built Clubhouse in 1986.

In 2003, the Club finished a major €100,000. pitch improvement, which allowed teams to play and train, whatever the weather. This was officially opened on the 1st of March and officially marked the first phase of our Club playing facilities development. Also on the 1st of March 2003, Westport revamped and refreshed its playing kit and reaffirmed its nickname of 'The Bulls'.

The installation of pitch-side flood lights on our main pitch in 2017 allowed us to enjoy our first home match under lights, and we've never looked back.

In 2025 we reached 100th years of participation in our great game which coincided with the IRFU 150th year of international rugby.
