On a day where , pitch conditions were just brutal.

Overnight rain had made the pitch surface wet, muddy and soft.

Westport and Sligo played out a draw, 5 points a piece over the course of the match. Although playing conditions were just awful, it didn't take from a competitive and sporting game between two evenly matched teams.

Sligo would draw first blood early, getting in for an early try in the fourth minute...However the conversion was denied due to strong wind and a difficult distance to kick the conversion...It would prove to be their only score of the match...

The remainder of the first half was evan with  oth sides attacking and either being turned over or penalised against , hand back posession to  the other team..strong commitment by both teams to the tackle gave no clear chances to break through the lines to gain a score.

Second half had Westport pressing for the Sligo, 22 and touch line early on, only to be repelled and Sligo making their own gains in a still evanly contested match in tough conditions. This pattern of play continued over the half until, Hugh molloy, with grit courage and sheer determination crossed the line to score  a fine try for Westport in the 21st minute..A deserved try for the young man..  Ben Foy took the conversion and narrowly missed, difficult wind just didnt help either .Sligo responded up the field but as was the game pattern, They were repelled and weatport attacked once more but just couldnt get the decisive score.

Final whistle and it finished all square in what was a fair result for both teams and the dogged experience will stand to both teams going forward...
Westport had notable performances from a number of players and indeed the players as a whole gave their all in difficult conditions.

Man of the match goes to Hugh Molloy who led by example throughout the match. Hugh was involved in everything, tackles, rucks .......
Great carries and a fine individual try to draw the match..

Sligo also, were good to a man and Left it on the field also.
We wish them well, in the next round of the competition going forward .
The Westport group will train for our next outing and look forward to it..
 Heads Up..!!
