After icy roads forced a postponement from noon to 2pm, on Saturday last, Westport U18 Ladies finally got their first game back after the Christmas break underway. The late change also meant a reshuffle in the squad, with some players unavailable due to other commitments.

Westport settled quickly and took the lead 10 minutes in, with Aoibhinn Lyons crossing the line for the opening try. That score proved to be the only one of the first half, giving Westport the edge at the break.

The second half was played at a fast pace, with both sides upping the intensity. Gort Monivea struck first after the restart, but Westport responded strongly as Aoibhinn Lyons grabbed her second try of the game. Gort Monivea answered back once more before Tara Macken finished well to put Westport back in front.

In a dramatic finish, Gort Monivea scored again just minutes before the full-time whistle to snatch the win.
