Westport extended their impressive winning run on Sunday as they hosted Loughrea in a highly entertaining U16 girl's clash. Loughrea travelled with determination, hoping to halt Westport’s momentum, but the home side started with real intent and never looked back.
Westport were on the scoreboard early thanks to a powerful, driving run from Ellie May Keane, who burst through the defence to touch down. The ever-reliable Millie Mullaney added the extras with her trusted boot.
From the restart, Westport struck again. Clara Kennedy produced an electric break, slicing through the Loughrea line to score Westport’s second try. The pressure continued, and it wasn’t long before Ciara Keating darted from the base of a Westport scrum, sniping over for another well-taken try.
Westport went into the break in control, but Loughrea showed real resilience in the second half, coming back with renewed energy and physicality. The visitors made Westport work hard for territory and possession, but the Mayo girls held firm in defence.
